Abstract

A pneumatic bar feed for lathes comprises a valve operated in one way to cause a piston 21 to feed a workpiece by a pre-determined amount and in the other .way to enable a spring 14 to return the piston 21 to its original position. The valve is controlled by a chuckoperating lever. Movement of the piston 21 moves a rod 16 until a collar 25 strikes a stop 17 . adjustable against a scale, the movement being transmitted to conventional stock feed means by a chain 13 and gearing 11, 12. The piston is returned by the spring 14. ; Manual .feed may be used under the control of a hand wheel on a shaft 2.
