Abstract
1,055,801. Making contacts; forging. W. RENZ, HANS WACKER, and E. SEITZ, [trading as RENZ, WACKER & CO.]. Jan. 8, 1964 [Jan. 9, 1963], No. 865/64. Headings B3A and B3H. In shaping a metallic member the member whilst in a turntable is advanced in a stepless manner towards an upsetting ram and receives a large number of blows at brief intervals from the ram. A hot pressure welded bimetallic pin 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), to form a contact is positioned in a die 2 in a turntable 3 and is pushed upwards by a needle 4 held in a holder 5 on an anvil 6. The anvil 6 is actuated by a member 7 engaged by one end 23 of a lever 8 pivoted at 21, the other end 22 of which carries a roller engaging a continuously rising cam 9. An upsetting ram 10 in a bush is actuated by a slider 12 having a roller 24 engaging a closely stepped cam 13 coupled to the cam 9. The radial dimension of cam 13 decreases. The welded pin 1 receives a large number of blows as it is steadily pushed upwards and is finally shaped as a contact in another machine. A known machine is described in which the pin 5 advanced in steps by a stepped cam and receive a small number of blows from a ram co-operating with a coarsely stepped further cam.
