Abstract

PURPOSE: To forge the captioned member of good quality at high efficiency by inserting a fine bar-form blank into an open die and upsetting the same under the specific conditions then backward extrusion-molding the same by the use of a press- fitting punch.
CONSTITUTION: In forging a cup-form member for production of chain rollers, nuts, etc., a bar-form blank 1 of a diameter as small as possible is heated to 400W 800°C and is inserted into the cavity 4 of an open die 3 and is pressed with an upsetting punch 19. At this time, a stepped concave 20 is provided to the pressing surface of the upsetting punch and a knock-out pin 5 is fixed in the position slightly sunk from the bottom of the cavity 4 so that a step part is formed to the top and bottom end parts of the blank and at the same time the blank is upset to the extent that its bulging part 1a makes slight contact with the peripheral wall of the cavity. This enables the heat transfer cooling and offcentering of the blank to be averted and permits the smooth progression of the backward extrusion-molding by the press- fitting punch 17 of the next process.
