Abstract
910,929. Making bimetallic contacts; forging; shearing; welding by pressure. RENZ, W., WACKER, H., and SEITZ, E., [trading as RENZ, WACKER & CO. OHG.]. July 11, 1961 [July 11, 1960], No. 25115/61. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A machine for making bi-metallic components, particularly electric contacts, comprises a stepwise rotating turret a carrying a plurality of dies c which are moved successively to a first station I where a first wire such as copper is fed from a guide means e and a slug d sheared therefrom by rotation of the turret, to a second consecutive station II where a second wire such as silver is fed from a guide means g and sheared upon further rotation to provide a slug f superposed upon the slug d, and to a further station IV where the slugs are cold pressure welded together by a press tool i, Fig. 3 (not shown). At a further station V the welded workpiece is pressed to contact rivet shape by a ram k and at station VI the contact is ejected by a rod l. The tool i and the ram k are actuated successively so as to avoid excessive load on the turret.
