Abstract
1,079,080. Producing metal articles etc.; power hammers &c. E. DURRWACHTER, and E. BOSCH, [trading as DR. EUGEN DURRWACHTER DODUCO]. May 16, 1966 [May 15, 1965 (2)], No. 21603/66. Headings B3A and B3H. In a machine formaking- bimetal contact rivets from wires 4, 5 and having a fixed die 10 with a counterbored bore 8 in which the contact is formed, a movable die 2 moves laterally from a first position (Fig. 1) under the wire 4 through an intermediate position under the wire 5 (Fig. 2) to a second position as shown. When in the first position (Fig. 1) a section of wire (4a) is fed into the bore of the movable die 2, and this section is sheared off during the transfer to the intermediate position (Fig. 2) where a section (5a) of the wire is fed into the bore in the die 2, abutting the section (4a). When the die 2 is moved to the second position under the bore 8 the section (5a, Fig. 3) is sheared off the wire 5. A pin 3 is then moved upwards by a stem (9, Fig. 3), driving the two sections (4a, 5a) into the bore 8 where they abut a pin 6 and are partially formed and welded by the force exerted by the pin 3. The die 2 is then returned to the first position and a heading tool (12, Fig. 5) brought under the partially formed contact. The contact is then finished by the heading tool (12) and ejected by the pin 6. The movement of the die 2 is provided by mounting it on an arm (13, Fig. 6) of a bell-crank lever which is moved by a cam (16). The wire may be a noble metal such as silver and the wire 5 of copper.
