Abstract

1,055,520. Automatic circuit - breakers. ELLENBERGER & POENSGEN G.m.b.H. June 29, 1965 [June 30, 1964], No. 27574/65. Heading H2B. A trip - free overload - responsive circuitbreaker has two conducting members 3, 4 disposed in the same plane for interconnection by a rectilinearly-moving bridging contact 45, one of the conducting members forming a loop 10 in which the core of an electromagnetic release is mounted. A bi-metallic strip 19 is connected in parallel with the loop and a twoarmed lever 36 has one arm 37 biased by spring 38 and its other arm 50 engaging in an aperture 49 in a slide 46 carrying the bridging contact. This lever has a pivot 54 which is slidable in slots 55, but may be latched by a detent 34 on a pawl 27. This pawl is latched by the armature (not shown) of the electromagnet and is released when the armature is attracted to the core of the electromagnet or moved by the bi-metallic strip. When this occurs the pivot 54 is released and the lever 36 is moved up until the arm 37 abuts a stop 56, the lever then pivoting about this stop to open the contacts with the arm 50 striking the upper end 52 of the aperture 49 to assist a spring 46<SP>1</SP> in opening the contacts. The pivoting of the lever 36 brings a recess 42 in a lug 41 of the lever 36 into the path of movement of a projection on a rod 57 extending from a push-button 7, so that when the push-button is depressed the lever 36 is moved downwardly. This causes the pivot 54 to engage a projection 35 on the pawl 27 so moving the pawl to a position in which it is relatched by the armature. When pressure is removed from the push-button, the pivot 54 is relatched by the detent 34 and the spring 38 turns the lever 36 to reclose the contacts. The circuit breaker may be manually tripped by moving two buttons, 8, 9 towards one another, the movement of the button 9 removing a latch from the button 8 so that the button 8 may move the armature to effect tripping.
