Abstract
1,055,428. Aircraft. HIRTENBERGER PATRONEN - ZUNDHUTCHEN - UND METALLWARENFABRIK A.G. Dec. 4, 1963 [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 47885/63. Heading B7W. A wing for a flying body is defined by three arcuate spars 1, 2 and 3 (Fig. 2, not shown) which are provided with a covering (not shown), spars 1 and 2 are of similar shape and are joined together at 4, spar 3 spans spars 1 and 2 and is joined to them at 5 and 6, a rib 7 supports the wing at 4 and at the apex 8 of spar 3, the covering is applied under stress to the unloaded wing and follows without wrinkling the changes of shape of the wing under load. As shown, the points of support 4 and 8 are fixed but in a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the spar junction 4 is slidably mounted and will move towards the rear under load. The rib 7 may be telescopic for displacing the junction 4 and an hydraulic or electromagnetic drive may be provided for said displacing. The spars are made of plastics material as is the cover, the plastics for the spars being reinforced with glass fibres. The spars may taper towards the outer edge of the wing. In a further embodiment, spar 3 is bipartite and the two parts of the spars are connected by a hinge at their apex (Figs. 4 to 6, not shown).
