Abstract
Solid polyurethanes, e.g. fibres are dyed by diazotising primary amine groups at at least the surface of the polyurethane with nitrous acid and subsequently treating the diazotizatised polyurethane with a naphthol. Conventional naphthol couplers are used and diazotization takes place at 30 DEG -200 DEG F. The Specification describes dyeing spandex (an elastic stretch polyurethane fabric). Composite fabrics comprising spandex and inelastic cotton fibres may be dyed in two stages, first by the process described and then by conventional processes for the cotton.
