Abstract

1,055,116. Endless elevators for articles. RAPIDS-STANDARD CO. Inc. July 22, 1965 [July 31, 1964; March 4, 1965], No. 31266/65. Heading B8A. A vertical conveyer 10 comprises a pair of primary chains 13 and a pair of secondary chains 14. Carriages 40 are arranged at equally spaced intervals on the conveyer 10 and each is made up of a plurality of intermediate links 41, Fig. 6 (not shown), a free end link 42 and a captive end link 43. Each link consists of a pair of side plates 44 connected by a rod 45 or 45a collectively forming a load supporting platform. Tie links 46 connect the lower ends of the links 41, 42, 43 so that the carriage 40 may flex convexly but not concavely. The captive end link is pivotally secured to the primary chain 13 and a pair of laterally spaced fingers 48 extends from the rod 45a to co-operate with lift bars 49 on the secondary chain pair. Rails 60 support the carriages 40 on an upper run 34, Fig. 8 (not shown), of a lower horizontal leg 35. Clamping plates 70, Fig. 5 (not shown), on the primary chains 13 hold the carriages 40 against guide discs 27 to ensure smooth transition around the bend, prevent the carriages 40 from swinging outwardly in a first vertical leg 30 and prevent the carriages from flexing downwardly in a lower run 35 of the horizontal portion 33. The conveyer 10 may run in either direction receiving loads from or discharging loads to wheels 75, 76. Ramping plates 61 or wheels 62, Fig. 7 (not shown), dampen the transition in the direction of movement of the carriage 40 from horizontal to vertical movement or vice versa.
