Abstract

1,049,705. Vacuum pumps. MAX-PLANCK GESELLSCHAFT ZUR FORDERUNG DER WISSENSCHAFTEN E.V. May 21, 1964 [May 27, 1963], No. 21131/64. Heading F1N. [Also in Division F4] A vacuum is generated by causing the gas to be evacuated to condense on the cooled surfaces of an apparatus, Fig. 1 (not shown), comprising a hollow cylinder 9 formed of one or more helical coils connected to a hollow partition 7a, 7b and supplied with condensed gas refrigerant through an admission pipe 2. Refrigerant evaporated in the cylinder 9 and partition 7a, 7b is withdrawn by a suction pump connected to a gas outlet 12. The cylinder 9 is mounted on steel pins 14 screwed into a radiation shield 6 itself supported on steel pins 13 screwed into a foundation plate 1. The flow of refrigerant is controlled by valves responsive to the temperature detected by vapour pressure thermometers 15a, 17a.
