Abstract

1,049,374. Pneumatic conveyers. CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD and D. H. LUCAS. Aug. 13, 1963 [Aug. 13, 1962], No. 30992/62. Heading B8A. In a device for stimulating the flow of coal etc. from a hopper 1, Fig. 1, an elongated gas emitter 8 comprises multiple outlets associated with a multiplicity of distribution passages which are connected sequentially to a common inlet. In one example the emitter 8 comprises parallel tubes 23, Fig. 2 (not shown), of different lengths the ends of each having branched outlets 25, 27 arranged so that the horizontal reaction of the jets has a resultant tendency to cause the emitter 8 to move through the bulk material. Each of the tubes 23 is separately connected to a ring of apertures 34 (Fig. 3, not shown) in a rotary valve 7 to which air is supplied through an inlet 15 and released sequentially. The air is supplied in short blasts through a solenoid operated valve 12 and the pressure variations in the rotary valve are adapted to rotate an apertured disc 35 through a ratchet mechanism 41 operated from a piston and cylinder (not shown).
