Abstract
A pigmented polymer composition contains a vinylidene fluoride polymer, TiO2 pigment and from 1-50% by wt. based on the wt. of vinylidene fluoride polymer, of an acrylate polymer derived from one or more monomers of the formula CH2=C(R1)COOR2, where R1 is hydrogen or methyl and R2 is C1-C4 alkyl, and which may contain a minor proportion of polymerized units derived from one or more copolymerizable monoethylenically unsaturated comonomers. The compositions may be prepared by solid mixing, e.g. melt blending, or by dispersion mixing, e.g. milling in an organic liquid medium which is a solvent for the acrylate polymer and is a latent solvent for the polyvinylidene fluoride, or by solution preparation. Suitable comonomers for the acrylate copolymers are styrene, alpha-methylstyrene, acrylic and methacrylic acid.
