Abstract
Compositions containing polymers or copolymers of vinyl chloride with compounds having only one CH2 = C< group are bonded to materials which are miscible with or permeated by cyclohexanone by an adhesive comprising a polymerized ester of acrylic or an alpha-acrylic acid with an alcohol containing not more than 4 carbon atoms, and as solvent a volatile liquid or mixture of liquids of which at least 10 per cent is miscible with the vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer. Polymethylmethacrylate is specified as the polymerized ester and as solvent therefor, cyclohexanone, methyl cyclohexanone, tetrahydrofurane, tetrahydro- or dihydro-pyrane alone or admixed with acetone or chloroform. Interpolymers of methyl methacrylate with minor proportions of compounds containing one CH2 = C< group, such as styrene, may be used. Polyvinyl chloride may be admixed with p tricresyl phosphate, dibutyl phthalate, chlorinated paraffin wax and white lead paste. Specified materials to which the polyvinyl chloride is bonded are wood, leather, polyvinyl chloride compositions and polymethyl methacrylate or other polymers of alkyl esters of acrylic acid or homologues thereof.
