Abstract

1,048,623. Valves. LEYBOLD HOLDING A.G. May 15, 1963 [May 16, 1962],No. 19261/63. Heading F2V. An adjustable metering valve comprises a valve plate 7 movable by actuating means 2 and having attached thereto a rotatable symmetrical valve element 11 projecting into a cylindrical bore 21 in an admission member 10, the valve element providing a variable tubular passage when the valve plate is lifted off its seating on the admission member and having both a cylindrical portion which is a tight-fit in the bore 21 and a paraboloidal or ellipsoidal portion. The element 11 and valve plate 7 are loaded by a spring 9 into engagement with a spherical thrust member 18 at the end of a rod 16 which is adjusted axially by rotation of the member 2 in screw-threaded engagement with the body. A graduated ring 17 indicates the position of the valve. The valve gives a substantially linear flow-lift relationship throughout its working range. The member 10 may be in the form of an exchangeable insert and has a bore diameter slightly greater than the cylindrical portion of the element 11.
