Abstract
1,048,587. Ignition systems. ROTAX Ltd. Sept. 13, 1963 [Oct. 10, 1962], No. 38320/62. Heading F1B. The invention relates to a spark ignition circuit including a capacitor 9 which in use is connected through rectifiers 10, 11 to an AC source 8 and a pair of surface discharge spark plugs 15, 16 connected in series with a control gap 14 across the capacitor, the arrangement being such that when the voltage across the capacitor reaches the breakdown voltage of the control gap the capacitor discharges through the spark plugs according to the invention the circuit includes second and third control gaps 17, 18 connected in series across the spark plugs and a pair of resistors 19, 20 connected across the second and third control gaps respectively, the breakdown voltages of the second and third control gaps being greater than one half of the breakdown voltage of the first mentioned control gap and a point intermediate the resistors being connected electrically to a point intermediate the spark plugs. As shown the connection from a point intermediate the resistors to a point intermediate the plugs is made through an inductor 21.
