Abstract

1,048,478. Transistor oscillating circuits. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Sept. 27, 1963 [Sept. 29, 1963], No. 38098/63. Heading H3T. [Also in Division G4] A lamp flasher unit, such as a vehicle turn indicator unit, comprises an astable multivibrator containing two transistors T1, T2, the coupling from one transistor to the other including a third transistor T3 the input circuit of which has a bias resistor 20 which conducts the lamp current, and the output circuit of which includes a resistor 25 which controls the oscillator. The collectors of the transistors T2, T3 are coupled by a high value resistor 34, and upon initially closing switch 15 both transistors T1, T2 conduct, and the circuit does not oscillate. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the collector circuit of transistor T2 includes a relay 24 which operates when T2 conducts, to connect the base of transistor T3 to the turn indicator switch 14. When this switch is operated to select either lamps 10 or 11 the lamp current flows in the base circuit of transistor T3, which includes a temperature sensitive resistor 22, switching it on, and allowing the circuit comprising transistors T1, T2 to start oscillating. Relay 24 then alternately releases and operates to flash the lamps. Should one of the lamps fail, the change in base current of the transistor T3 will change its conductivity, and thus modify the flashing rate of the circuit. The relay 24 may be replaced by a transistor switch in the emitter circuit of transistor T2, Fig. 2 (not shown), or by a switching circuit comprising a pair of crosscoupled transistors, Fig. 3 (not shown).
