Abstract

1,102,886. Signalling by visible flashing signals. ESSEX WIRE CORPORATION. 28 May, 1965 [28 May, 1964], No. 22851/65. Headings G4F and G4Q. [Also in Division H3] In a switching unit, for flashing a signalling lamp 10, a capacitor 13 charges through normally closed relay contact 23 and resistor 14 to turn on transistor 15 and energize the relay winding 20 so that the movable contact 22 of the relay connects the supply via normally open relay contact 24 to the lamp 10. Capacitor 13 then discharges through the base-emitter junction of transistor 15 and relay winding 20 to maintain the lamp 10 on until the current flowing through winding 20 falls below the holding value of the relay; when the switch 19 changes to its original position and the circuit operation is repeated. Transistor 15 may be of PNP or NPN type. The flashing circuit may be used for direction signals and hazard warning signals in automotive vehicles.
