Abstract

1280669 Road traffic signals; alarm systems UNITED-CARR Inc 12 Dec 1969 [26 Dec 1968] 60694/69 Headings G4N and G4Q A flasher-buzzer device for an automobile comprises a relay adapted to serve the dual functions of a flasher unit and a buzzer or inadvertence (e.g. ignition circuit on, headlights on) signal unit. The relay 10 has a core 11 with windings 12, 12a which when energized close normally open contacts 13, 14, the armature contact 14 being normally closed with contact 15. In flasher circuit operation, closure of turn signal switch 18 with either of turn lamp circuits 16, 17 energizes winding 12a closing contacts 13, 14, completing the lamp circuit for a period determined by the time constant of the winding 12a and a condenser 20 connected in parallel with this winding. A voltage dividing resistor 22 between the condenser 20 and the positive terminal 24 is preferably of the same resistance as the winding 12a. In buzzer circuit operation, normally closed contacts 14, 15 connect winding 12 from positive terminal 24 through a normally open control switch 25 to ground. The switch 25 may be actuated by conditions such as an open door, a key in the ignition in the ON position, or like circumstances of operator inadvertence. Closure of switch 25 energizes winding 12 effecting opening of contacts 14, 15 thereby de-energizing winding 12 and releasing armature contact 14 which re-engages contact 15, thus setting up an oscillatory buzzing action which will continue until the switch 25 is opened. Several separate buzzer control switches connecting to terminal 26 of relay winding 12 may serve several separate warning requirements. A pilot lamp 27 may be connected in each separate buzzer warning circuit having its own control switch 25, but a single buzzer device only is employed.
