Abstract

1,047,747. Container closures; opening containers. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. July 5, 1965 [Oct. 28, 1964], No. 43993/64. Headings B8D and B8T. A closure, moulded from a frangible plastics material such as polystyrene, has a barb 2 which snaps under the rim 3 of a container 4 and a crown 5 with four dispensing holes 6 closed by diaphragms 7, Fig. 3 (not shown), integral with the crown, studs 8 extending from the diaphragms so that on applying pressure to the studs the diaphragms rupture to expose the holes. A flange 12 is attached to the crown 5 by a thin web 14 which fractures if an attempt is made to tamper with the container contents by levering the flange upwards. Frusto-conical surfaces 16 and 17 enable the closures to be stacked one inside the other. Recesses 11, Fig. 3 (not shown), are formed in the top of the studs to receive the end of a pencil &c. to provide downward pressure to rupture the diaphragms 7. The container, which may have a flexible rim, is moulded from a resilient synthetic thermoplastic material.
