Abstract
1376723 Containers; stoppers &c. SVENSK INDUSTRIS KONSTRUKTIONS-OCH BERAKNINGSKONTOR SIKOB AB 9 Nov 1971 [10 Nov 1970] 52016/71 Headings B8D and B8T A closed filled container comprises an inwardly-bowed membrane wall portion 2, which is provided with an openable arrangement 5 and which flexes outwardly with a snap-over action into a convex configuration in response to an opposed outwardly-directed bottom wall portion 9 being snappingly pressed inwards. The container may be of spherical form and the opposed bottom wall portion, when pressed inwardly, enables the container to be stood on the base rim formed. The openable arrangement may comprise a tear portion or flap 6 which is provided with a finger grip 7 and which is defined by an external incision 10, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), that ruptures or is further weakened on the wall portion 2 snapping over to the convex configuration. A part-spherical cover 8 may be glued over the membrane. On pressing the bottom portion 9 inwards, the liquid contents urge the membrane portion 2 outwards. The bottom portion may be subsequently pressed upwards into the container 9<SP>111</SP> to exude the contents if the latter are viscous. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the membrane is provided with a spout closed by a cap or screwed plug shaped to the contour of the container. In another embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the membrane portion is connected to the bottom portion by a motion-transmitting tube 13. In the embodiment of Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the motion-transmitting tube is replaced by a rod 14 which is provided with an end closure 15 closing an opening 16 in the membrane. On depression of bottom portion inwardly beyond its inwards position, the closure is freed from the opening to permit dispensing of the contents. In a modification, the closure may be hinged to the edge of the opening. In a modification of the embodiment of Fig. 6, Fig. 9 (not shown), the motion transmitting tube is provided with a plug 19 connected thereto by a bayonet connection and sealing an opening in the membrane portion. On inwardly-flexing the container, the tube slides upwardly in a dependent guide flange 21 to flex the membrane outwardly and push the plug out of the opening. The plug may then be removed from the projecting tube end to facilitate dispensing of the contents. The inward flexing of the bottom portion is arranged to displace a volume smaller than that resulting from the corresponding outward flexing of the membrane portion. In a final embodiment, Fig. 10 (not shown), the container is in the form of a cylindrical can. The container may be of plastics, e.g. polyethylene, plastics-faced paper, or sheet metal, possibly in combination with an aluminium foil lining.
