Apparatus for inserting a contraceptive ring into the uterus comprises a cannula 1 in the form of an oval-section tube which is flared-out at one end 2, an obturator 4 used in inserting the cannula and having a handle 5 and a dilator 6, and a member (Fig. 3, not shown) which is pushed through the cannula to eject the device into the uterus. The cannula is provided with finger rings 3 (Fig. 1, not shown) and the handles of both the obturator and the pushing member are too large to enter the cannula.
