Abstract

1,046,776. Moulding hollow articles. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. April 23, 1963 [May 11, 1962], No. 18123/62. Heading B5A. In a method for the manufacture of a hot water bottle there is applied to sheets of thermoplastic material, on heated vented mould forms having co-operative mating edge portions, a vacuum to mould each sheet against the adjacent mould form and the mould forms are brought together so as to seal together the peripheral portions of the sheets, the sheets being heated sufficiently in the mould to stabilize them in their moulded configuration. The mould forms, preferably made of aluminium, are conveniently hinged together to allow them to open at an angle of 120 degrees. In the process an uncured rubber neck bung containing a screwed metal stopper is placed in a depression in one of the mould forms which is horizontal prior to moulding. The material used may be a rubber composition which may have a plain or decorated surface and may have a fabric cover.
