Abstract

A sheet (or sheets) of organic thermoplastic material which can be heated by high frequency electric current is preheated and placed between the two halves of a hollow mould, the two halves being separated by two thicknesses of the material. The sheet is then blown to the shape of the mould by fluid pressure introduced between the two thicknesses. A high frequency electric current is applied to the mould whilst a follow-up pressure is maintained on the two halves of the mould, and the hollow article is removed from the mould and its outer flash is trimmed off. The hollow article may be a bottle or a doll's head. The H.F. heating, which may be applied after the sheet has been blown, softens the material and the follow-up pressure seals the edges of the moulding. Two sheets may be used, or one sheet folded over on itself. The preheating of the sheet may be by infra-red heaters, e.g., to 120 DEG C. for polyvinyl chloride. Other materials which may be used are vinyl resins in general, polyamides, polyethylene terephthalate, chlorinated polyethylenes and cellulose acetate. The mould may be cold.
