[Also in Group XVII] A hollow or filled container is moulded from a sheet of thermoplastic material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, by taking a pre-folded sheet, a tube slit along its length or, as shown, a sheet 1 which is drawn from a reel 2 and folded by a head 3, heating the sheet by electric heaters 5, closing mould parts 6, 6<SP>1</SP> about the sheet and either blowing air under pressure through a nozzle 13, applying suction between the sheet and the mould parts or both or introducing the filling for the container, to force the sheet into contact with the mould. The mould may have ducts 12 to allow air to escape. The moulded container may be moved along either by the mould parts which move with the sheet or by holding device 8. With the latter arrangement several moulds may be used. The unsealed edges of the container may be sealed by welding and the containers separated and trimmed. The welding may take place in the mould, the mould being heated electrically or the material being heated by dielectric heating. The mould halves may be provided with an inscription or ornamentation or colouring matter.
