Abstract

[Also in Divisions B5 and B8] In articles manufactured from non-flaccid self-supporting synthetic plastic sheet material, e.g. sheet polystyrene having a thickness of the order of 0.005 inch, a groove is formed along an intended fold line by a linear deformation of the material, e.g. by a vacuum technique employed at the same time as, or before or after, formation of the remainder of the article. One embodiment is shown wherein a tray portion 3, consisting of side walls 4, flange 5 and a corrugated bottom 6, is joined to an information displaying flap 2 by a groove 1 of semi-circular crosssection comprising portions 1a 1b and 1c or 1a and 1c with intermediate portions stamped or cut out. Various methods of securing the flap 2, when folded on to tray 3, are described including engagement of beads 7 in holes 8 and tongue and slot arrangements, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). In one form, tongues 12, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), are joined to flap 2 by grooved fold lines 13 and hold the flap in place by being folded to lie beneath flange 5. They may also engage slots 10a. Tray 3 may have a flap 2 at both ends.
