Abstract
1,046,281. Radio navigation; harmonic frequency discriminators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Jan. 1, 1965 [Jan. 3, 1964], No. 349/64. Addition to 1,003,317. Headings H3A and H4D. The omni-range radio navigation system of Specification 1,003,317 is modified in that the receiver harmonic discriminator, which is required to produce the fifth harmonic (150 c/s.) of the 30 c/s. " bearing " signal frequency-modulated on to a 9960 c/s. carrier, comprises two sets 11, 12, 13 and 19, 21, 22 of parallel connected L-C filters to which the F.M. wave is applied. The filters are series resonant at different frequencies spaced according to a cosine law (but not sequentially) through the range of frequency swing of the carrier (9960Œ480 c/s.), Fig. 2, 3 (not shown). The outputs of the filter sets are rectified by oppositely poled diodes 15, 23 and combined by summing resistors 29, 31. As the input frequency cyclically sweeps the range (9960Œ480 c/s.) appropriate filters become operative in turn at equal intervals to produce an output signal, the tuning sequence of the filters being such that the rectified output at 32 is alternately positive and negative so that the fifth harmonic of the 30 c/s. input frequency modulating signal is derived. Transistor amplifiers may precede the rectifiers, Fig. 5 (not shown), and the filters may be parallel resonant.
