Abstract

1,044,282. Exhaust brakes. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO. Ltd. July 30, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1962], No. 30175/62. Heading F1B. In an I.C. engine exhaust brake the butterfly valve 1 is mounted on a pivot 2 which is positioned so that the exhaust gas pressure acting on it is unbalanced and tends to open the valve. The valve is actuated by a compressed air motor 4 through a linkage including a coiled spring 5 which normally transmits movements unyieldingly but can yield to permit the valve to open under an exhaust gas pressure above a predetermined level.
