Abstract

1,044,181. Filling containers; endless conveyers. ETABLISSEMENTS KRIEG & ZIVY. March 18, 1963 [March 19, 1962], No. 10626/63. Headings B8A and B8C. [Also in Division H1] Containers, for example squeeze tubes, to be filled are mounted transversely on a strip (Fig. 1, not shown), and are drawn by grasping means 64 (Fig. 6, not shown), engaging successive containers through a machine which includes filling nozzles, funnels or guides 80 moving with the containers to fill them, and a closing station 82, 84. Loops 5, 6 (Fig. 2, not shown), holding the containers on the strip may be cut from the strip, or the strip may be formed of transverse members 9 (Fig. 3, not shown), joining spaced pairs of strips. As a further alternative (Fig. 4, not shown), the containers may rest on a flat strip and be secured at each end by tapes secured to the flat strip between the containers and passing over them. In the machine described, the grippers 64 feeding the containers 1 and the strip 2 are carried by an endless chain. The strip 2 is twisted, to dispose the tubes vertically, and the tubes are then cleaned at 68 by air-blowing and suction devices 70, 71. They then pass beneath a set of moving filler nozzles 80, between belts 82 for flattening the skirts of the tubes, and through a station 84 which closes the opposite ends of the tubes by shaping. Stoppers are then fitted on the tubes at 86 and the folds are crimped and the tubes marked at 88. The band of containers may then be fed to form layers in a packing case. Alternatively, the band may be cut into lengths each containing several tubes. In the form shown, however, the tubes are pushed from the band of plungers 97 moving with an endless member 96 and operated by a cam 98. The tubes are thus pushed either into individual containers on a conveyer 92 or into containers for receiving a number of the tubes. The containers may be secured to the conveyer 92 and may be erected while secured to it. Paper inserts may be inserted with the tubes into their containers.
