Abstract
1,043,403. Pipes; pipe joints. BOCHUMER VEREIN FUR GUSSSTAHLFABRIKATIONA.G. April 11,1963 [April 12, 1962; April 18, 1962; April 19, 1962], No. 14582/63. Headings F2G and F2P. [Also in Division E2] A transportable vacuum container assembly for use in degasification of molten net has connected thereto a flexible suction line comprising a supporting inner layer 1 constructed of contacting heat-resistant metal parts movable relative to one another so as to render the layer flexible and an outer impermeable flexible layer 3 spaced apart from the inner layer 1. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the inner layer 1 of the suction line consists of rings of steel, the intermediate layer 2 of asbestos, glass wool, mineral wool or a mixture thereof and the vacuum tight outer layer 3 of rubber, synthetic plastic or resinous material reinforced by wires or threads 4 in annular or helical form. At the end of the inner layer is provided a tapered flange 7, the outer layer 3 being clamped to the inner layer by bands 6. A combustion preventing gas, e.g. nitrogen, may be passed into the intermediate layer through an apertured pipe 8. The relatively movable parts of the inner layer may comprise a ball-and-socket joint (Fig. 2, not shown), the outer flexible layer 16 being held by a plurality of spacers 15, 18. A supply pipe 23 for a cooling gas is provided. In a further embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), each end of a pipe 36 is telescopically joined by a flexible hose 31 to a further pipe 30, 35. Compressed air is directed on to the flexible hose as at 34. The spacers may comprise rings, spiral braided or woven structures or the like. A suction line 55 (Fig. 4, not shown) which connects a member 46 of a ladle 42 to a stationary suction line 47 is supported by a suspending device 50 and a rope and spring assembly 51, 54 of a gallows-like structure. The outer end of the rope is supplied with a tensioning device 53 which may also comprise a counterweight. In a further embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the gallows-like structure is provided with a swivel bearing about its vertical axis. The structure may also possess wheels. The joint 49 between the suction lines includes two tapered flanges, one on each line, one of the flanges being recessed. A sealing ring is seated in the recess (Fig. 6, not shown). The flanges are urged together by a hinged, channelled clamping ring 65 which is formed at its free ends 67, 68 with forks 69, 70 respectively. One fork 69 is provided with a pivoted rod on which is mounted a rotatable eccentric cam 73, the cam face of which engages the face of the other fork 70 remote from the fork 69.
