Description

UNITED STATES 'JEHUE M. HARLAN, OF OWENSVILLE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGQN-JACKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,005, dated October 8, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J EHUE M. HARLAN, of Owensville, in the county of Gibson and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Wagon Jack, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is an end elevation, and Fig. 2 a side elevation, of my improved wagon-jack, the dotted lines indicating the position of the lever and pendulum "when any objectis elevated or supported thereon.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new adjustable wagon-jack, which can be extended at will, for use on all sizes of vehicles.
The invention consists in making the stem or standard of the jack extensible, and in combining the vertically-adj nstable upper part with a pivot-lever and pendulum foot, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
A in the drawing represents the bed plate or base of the wagon-jack. B is the upright post projecting therefrom. O is'an extension post placed alongside of B and supported by a link, a, in one of a series of notches, b b, which are cut into the side of B. By raising or lowering the extension post 0 andchanging the link a in a higher or lower notch or recess, 1), the post can be held at suitable height. The upper part of the post B carries a band, d,
which embraces the post 0, as shown, steadying it. To the upper end of the post 0 is pivoted, by a pin, 0, the lever D of the jack. One end of the pin 0 is held in the post 0, and its other end in a metal strap, f, that is fastened to O, as shown. E is the foot of the jack. It is at g pivoted to the lever D, and has apendent arm, h, which holds it in position for application to the axle.
The operation of the Wagon-jack, by means of the lever and foot, is substantially like that of other instruments for the same purpose, and therefore not specially described.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent The extensible wagon-jack, composed of the posts B O, lever D, and pendulumfoot E, substantially as herein shown and described.
J EHUE M. HARLAN.
