Abstract

1,042,502. Controlled non-linear inductors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Feb. 18, 1963 [Nov. 17, 1961], No. 41207/61. Heading H3B. [Also in Division H2] A D.C. motor 12 is energized from a threephase supply 25 through transductors 20, 21, 22 and a full wave rectifier unit 13, the transductors being controlled from a full wave rectifier 31 which includes two silicon controlled rectifiers 32 triggered by a unit 33, and the circuit to the control winding 26, 27, 28 including a line rectifier 34 and a by-pass rectifier 39 each shunted by a respective CR circuit 35, 36 and 37, 38. The CR circuits prevent transient voltages induced in the control windings by closure of the line conductor 24, for example, from subjecting the rectifiers 31, 34 and 39 in the control circuit to potentials in excess of their maximum safe reverse voltages. The arrangement may also be applied to single phase supply circuits.
