Abstract

1,042,290. Hinges. C. R. HAMMERSTEIN. March 1, 1963, No.23174/66. Heading E2F. A hinge for the adjustable backrest of a seat comprises a pair of hinge plates 11, 12 mounted on a common hinge bolt 128, first and second discs 131, 133 rigidly connected to the respective hinge plates, and an intermediate disc 132 freely rotatable on the bolt and located between the first and second discs, separately operable releasable locking means being provided for locking the intermediate disc to the respective first and second discs. The locking means comprise spring-loaded cylindrical locking pins 134, 135 which are urged into engagement with respective pairs of opposed semi-cylindrical recesses formed in the opposed surfaces of the discs 131, 132, and 132, 133. The pin 134 may be retracted by means of a pivoted lever 138 to permit the backrest to be moved to one of a number of different positions defined by semicylindrical recesses 147-150 in the disc 132, and the pin 135 may be retracted by means of a pull device 140 situated at the top of the backrest to permit the backrest to be moved between a normal position, defined by a recess 151, and a reclining position defined by a recess 152. A return spring 153 urges the backrest towards the upright position.
