Abstract

1,041,961. Respiratory apparatus. BLEASE ANAESTHETIC EQUIPMENT Ltd. Jan. 5, 1965, No. 445/65. Heading A5T. Apparatus for supplying a regulated tidal volume of gas to the lungs of a patient, includes a flowmeter 10 through which a turbine pump 18 supplies gas at a constant rate to a deformable bag 22 and, via a non-return valve 20, to a container 36, and a cyclically fluctuating positive and negative pressure source 26 which periodically forces the gas from the bag 22 into the container 36. The varied pressure in the container 36 causes a bag 38 to supply respiratory air to the patient for inhalation, the negative pressure stroke from the source 26 acting through a non-return valve 40 on the bag 38 causing the patient's exhalation. A ventilation machine of known kind can be used as the source 26; the apparatus may then supply a tidal volume of 5 c.c., suitable for a young child. The breathing bag 38 can be used to supply an anaesthetic gas.
