Abstract
1,040,747. Press-button retractive switches; switches held set and freed mechanically. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. May 24, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 20844/63. Heading H2B. Switch units which can be readily assembled in tandem and/or side by side so as to build up a multi-push-button switch each comprise a pair of identical casing halves 35 secured together by transverse sleeves 38 and provided with longitudinal holes 41. Each unit has an actuator rod 28 carrying spring-urged contact bridges 24 and 25 co-operating with fixed contacts on strips 36, which may comprise printed circuit boards, connected to terminal lugs 23. Alternatively, the contacts 7 may be rigid and the strips 6 resilient. Each rod 28 has a restoring spring 32 and projection 30 at one end and a corresponding recess 31 at the other end to accommodate the projection 30 of a successive unit. Successive units are held together by threaded spindles passing through holes 41, 41<SP>1</SP>; locating pins 42 and co-operating reccesses 43 are provided on the casings. A bank of assembled units may be held together by transverse threaded spindles 39 passing through the sleeves 38 (Fig. 3, not shown). Adjacent switches may be operated by a common button (Fig. 4, not shown), and a latching interlock mechanism may be added (Fig. 5, not shown).
