Abstract
1,040,621. Locking hydraulic rams. W. REINERS and G. WIGGERMAN, [trading as FIRMA REINERS and WIGGERMANN, GETRIEBE - UND MASCHINENBAU.] March 21, 1963 [March 23, 1962], No. 11276/63. Addition to 991,704. Heading F1P. [Also in Divisions B7 and E2] According to the parent Specification, the drive to a ship's propeller passes through a vertical shaft 2 (Fig. 1 not shown) which is axially retractable and extendable by fluid pressure and at the bottom of which is a nacelle mounting the propeller. According to the present invention, the shaft is held in its upper, inoperative position by a peg 65 engaging an annular groove 64 in a ring 61 rotatably mounted on the shaft. The peg is urged into the groove by a spring 69 and out of it by hydraulic pressure transmitted along grooves 72 from the annular space containing the ring 61 when pressure is applied thereto to lower the shaft. When the shaft is retracted a bevelled surface 63 engages the peg to displace it so that it may engage the groove 64. A pin 73 extends out of the cylinder and gives a visual indication of the peg position.
