Abstract

1,040,187. Alternative road wheels. D. M. JINKS. Jan. 29, 1965 [Oct. 29, 1963], No. 42617/63. Heading B7D. [Also in Division B8] A side loading fork lift truck (see Division B8) is provided at one end or side (Fig. 5, not shown) with a set of alternative running wheels 9, 10 having axes at right angles. The mountings 11 of the wheels 10 are pivoted to the vehicle frame at 13 and have forked ends 14 engaging the pivotal mounting 5 of the wheel 9 so that as wheel 9 is raised by hydraulic ram 2 the wheels 10 are lowered and vice versa. The wheels 10 may be steerable through links 15 and wheel 9 may also be steerable. In modifications only one wheel 10 is provided or the wheel 9 is replaced by a pair of coaxial wheels. The wheels 10 may be at opposite extremities of a vehicle. Hydraulic jacks 30, 31 (Figs. 5, 6, not shown) may be lowered to the ground to prevent the vehicle tipping when the forks 25 are moved sideways.
