Abstract

In a shuttleless loom in which interconnected pairs of picks are inserted from both edges. The loops of weft form selvedges and the cut ends project beyond the selvedges and are woven with extra warp threads to form strips of fabric which are cut off during take-up. Each edge of the fabric passes over a freely rotatable circular blade having a wavy cutting edge; a flange rests against the selvedge, towards which it is lightly spring loaded, so as to guide the cutter in case the fabric deviates from its correct path. The tension in the extra warp threads causes them to become twisted together in a groove formed between the cutting blade and the flange, thereby enabling the weft ends to be gripped by fewer extra warp threads than would otherwise be necessary.
