Abstract

1,039,389. Electrically released switches; retractive switches. JOSEPH LUCUS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Sept. 30, 1964 [Oct. 16, 1963; March 3, 1964], Nos. 40755/63 and 8877/64. Heading H2B. A switch for closing a circuit for a predetermined time comprises an operating member 16 movable against a spring bias 20 to close contacts 21, 26 when it is latched by the end of a bi-metal 22 which is heated by a coil 24 energized by closing the contacts so as to release the member 16 after the predetermined time. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), the push-button 16 is depressable against a light spring to close the contacts 21, 26 and must be depressed further against a relatively strong spring to engage the latch 23. Furthermore, the latched portion 17 of the push-button is formed as a bridging contact which connects the heater coil to the moving contact 21 in the latched condition. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5) a pivoted, spring-biased dolly 45 moves a blade contact 54 into engagement with fixed contact 41 and is there latched by a member 50 attached to or integral with the bi-metal 48; the contacts can be opened at any time by moving the dolly to the open position.
