Abstract

1,039,156. Cooling engine cylinders. HUMBER Ltd., A. J. DUKE and P. G. WARE. June 28, 1965 [June 30, 1964], No. 27046/64. Addition to 1,014,481. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F4] The cooling system of the parent Specification is modified in that the hydraulic motor 18 driving the fan 17 cooling the radiator 14 is in a by-pass line 23, 19, 20 around a return line 12 from the radiator 14 to the engine 10, and there is a second engine-driven pump 21 in the bypass line. At normal operating temperatures the coolant passes along the line 11 to the radiator 14 and back to the engine through the return line 12. At low temperatures the coolant passes through a full-flow by-pass 15 direct to the engine jacket under the control of a thermostatic valve 22. At high temperatures the coolant passes from the radiator under the control of a thermostatic valve 25 along the line 23 to pump 21, line 19, motor 18 driving the fan 17 and line 20 to the engine cooling jacket 10. A clutch disconnects the motor 21 when coolant is not flowing through the by-pass 23, 19, 20.
