Abstract

103,901. Gravereaux, R. L., and Martin, C. March 22, 1916. Respirators; protectors and shields. - A mask for protection against asphyxiating and like gases is formed from several layers of muslin or the like connected together by sewing, and is so shaped as to lie against the forehead and to pass under the chin. Several such elementary masks, each impregnated with a different chemical, may be superposed and sewn together. The masks are fitted with transparent eye-pieces. The Figure shows a mask consisting of two elements a, b stitched together, an opening for the eyes being covered by a transparent flexible sheet f. The mask is held in place by elastic bands h, i and a non-elastic band j. No fastening-devices or knots are employed. In a modification, the transparent sheet f is replaced by a sheet of rubber carrying two transparent disks.
