Abstract

871,661. Respiratory masks. ROBINSON & SONS Ltd. Feb. 2, 1959 [Feb. 28, 1958], No. 6478/58. Class 81 (2). A disposable face mask consists of paper or non-woven fabric which is pleated or folded to cover the nostrils and mouth and extend under the chin of the wearer and has means for holding it in position. The mask is made from an oblong sheet with a box pleat secured only at its ends by stitching or binding, so that it may assume a boat shape. Elastic ear loops 20a, 20b or ties secure the mask to the wearer. The mask is made of wet-strengthened Manilla hemp paper or non-woven fabric the fibres of which are bonded by regenerated cellulose, polymeric substances or rubber applied throughout or in a pattern, or comprising thermoplastic fibres e.g. cellulose acetate which are caused to adhere by heat or solvents. The sheet material used may be reinforced by open mesh fabric and treated with an antiseptic.
