Abstract

1,038,889. Spreading sand. A. GRUVRIS. Nov. 25, 1963 [Nov. 27, 1962], No. 46394/63. Heading AID. [Also in Division E1] Sand is deposited on a road by means of a tippable container 10 and hot water is sprayed in front of the sand from a tank 4 the water in which is heated from the exhaust system of the vehicle. As shown the silencer 8 is fitted in the tank 4 and the water is fed from the tank 4 by means of air pressure. In a modification the exhaust system is used to heat the water and the exhaust gases are fed to the water tank under the control of a device sensitive to ambient temperature. A blower may be provided to blow air through a pipe to clear away loose snow and ice. The water tank may be mounted on a trailer and connected through flexible lines to the exhaust and air pressure systems of a lorry.
