Abstract

610,659. Heating vehicles. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd., and BLOMELEY, H. April 12. 1946, No. 11340. [Class 64(ii)] [Also in Group X] A vehicle heating apparatus comprises a fan and motor unit 7 removably mounted, e.g. by nuts and bolts 11, in a casing 1 above a central air inlet 4 near the front of the vehicle, internal baffling means 19 to distribute the air uniformly around surrounding heating elements 12, and an outlet 21 which is sealed into a distribution conduit 24, leading to a point of' air discharge 30 in the passenger compartment, to prevent leakage of air. In the form shown, the cylindrical casing 1 is arranged above the driver's cab in a single deck bus and the air inlet 4, which may be extended by a hood or cowl, is covered by a metal grille 5. The heating elements comprise hot water coils with helical fins 15, connected by pipes 13, 14 with the.engine cooling system, and supported by an annular plate 17 carried by bolts 18 which also support the annular baffle 19. The rectangular outlet 21 is tapered and is sealed along the top and sides in the conduit 24 by a rubber gasket 26. Draining means (not shown) prevent freezing up of the heating system in cold weather.
