Abstract

1,038,714. Magnetic switches. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 21, 1965 [Feb. 27, 1964], No. 8211/64. Heading H2B. A multiposition rotary switch comprising a two-part cylindrical housing 4 coaxially surrounding a rotatable permanent magnet assembly 31 has a plurality of circumferentially spaced sealed magnetic reed contact units 1 located in pairs of aligned sockets 5, 6 formed in the parts 9 and 8 of the housing. The permanent magnet assembly comprises (Fig. 2, not shown) a pair of axially magnetized permanent magnets 29, 30 clamped between the opposite ends of blocks 27, 28 secured to shaft 22. Pole pieces 31 are secured to the outer sides of blocks 27, 28. A similar housing 14 may be secured to housing 4 by bolts 20 in which case the shaft 22 would carry a permanent magnet assembly for the units 1<SP>1</SP> of this housing. Terminals which may be terminal tags or co-operate with socket terminals 33 are led out from between adjacent overhanging insulating blocks 35, 36, 37 or 38. Only one permanent magnet need be provided in each magnet assembly.
