Abstract

A movable magnet switch has two coaxial magnets arranged so that axial movement of one magnet causes movement of the other magnet in the opposite direction to open or close an electric circuit between two contacts. In Fig. 2 two insulated cables 22, 23 have switch housing ends 27, 28 secured to their insulation and the cable 22 passes unbroken through the switch 26 whilst cable 23 is broken and its ends are connected to terminals 36, 48. Terminal 36 extends from a ring 34 engaged by a flange 33 of a conductor tube 29 surrounding the cable 22. A ring magnet 57 on a conductive eyelet 53 is movable along the tube 29 and in its left hand position the flange 56 of the eyelet bridges fixed contacts 46, 47 which extend from respective members 43, 44 on opposite sides of an insulator 38. The cable terminal 48 extends from the member 43 and the member 44 is connected by a jumper 52 to the tube 29. A ring magnet 63 outside the sealed sleeve 58 is movable between flanges 61, 62 to repel the magnet to effect operation. In alternative arrangements the through cable may be omitted, the inner magnet may be the actuating plunger and an indicating lamp may be built into the switch (Figs. 6, 7 and 8 respectively, not shown).
