Abstract
1,038,229. Telephone receiver cradle switch. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 17, 1964 [Nov. 29, 1963], No. 47270/63. Heading H4J. [Also in Division H2] The cradle or hook switch of a subscriber's telephone instrument has a number of magnetizable reed contacts 20 which are actuated by an annular magnet 14 carried on a plate 13 which is forced upwards into the region of the contacts by springs 11-12 upon the removal of the handset from the plungers 15-16. In a further arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown) the magnet is stationary and a shield carried by the plate moves between the magnet and the contacts. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6 removal of the handset causes the longitudinal magnet 26, which is magnetized as shown, to be rotated 90 degrees when the direction of the magnetic field is such as to operate the series of contacts 25 placed beneath and/or above the magnet.
