Abstract

1,037,448. Opening containers. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. Sept. 23, 1964 [April 10, 1964], No. 38817/64. Heading B8D. A pull tab 18, Fig. 3 (not shown), preferably of sheet metal, is joined to a tear strip in a can end by means of a rivet 17 integral with the can end, the tab being provided with transverse ribs 28 each aligned with a groove 29 in the opposite surface of the tab, which enable it to be gripped. The edges of the tab at the sides and outer end are turned in under it at 22. The tear strip, Fig. 1 (not shown), is formed by weakening lines to make an elongated pouring opening.
