Abstract

103,691. Evans, A. G. Feb. 5, 1916. Scrubbers and washers. - In cooling- towers having a series of laths or narrow battens a, of wood, metal, or stretched fabric, arranged in a vertical plane so as to form a continuous zigzag path for the water, and diamond or V-shaped transverse air passages, a second series of laths a<1> is arranged to overhang the first set so as to prevent continuous dripping from the junctions of the two laths at the bearers c. The lower ends of the laths have V-shaped notches chamfered at the throat, as shown in plan in Fig. 3, so that the bulk of the stream of water drops freely through the throat on to the adjacent lower lath. The rails or bearers c may be in two parts held together by nails forming spacers for the laths, and links of metal may be threaded over them to resist the wedging action of the laths.
