Cooling-towers. - The liquid drops from troughs f, g on to saucer-shaped plates i and thence flows in thin streams along shallow gutters, which may be formed by the surfaces of laths or planks b, arranged in a zigzag manner in parallel vertical sets, the direction of inclination being reversed from set to set so that transverse air passages c are formed, free of falling water. The lower ends of the planks bare supported in members d and are notched so as to direct the water on to the plank below.
