Abstract

647,647. Cooling-towers. WESTERGAARD, O. L. B., and BRANCZIK, K. W. Sept. 25, 1947, No. 26089. [Class 64(i)] [Also in Group XII] The irrigation laths 1 of a cooling-tower are made of plate glass, and each has parallel faces connected by a confluent rounded lower edge 4, each end of the lath being a single plane face wholly at right-angles to the parallel faces. The laths are supported on wooden or concrete cross-bearers 2 carried by stack posts, the bearers having slots and/or teeth on their upper surfaces, and the slats resting on the bearers by their rounded edges. As shown, the slots are wide enough to take the ends of two laths each. In another form, the teeth are inclined upstanding wires arranged in pairs. The bearers may be tiltable.
